Frequently asked questions

Sending and receiving Delivery, radio sessions, and peer-to-peer.

Where is Telnet mode?

There is no separate Telnet mode in RadioMail 2.0. Choose Send Now to deliver over Wi-Fi or cellular, or Hold for Radio for a radio session. See Sending and receiving email.

What is the difference between Send Now and Hold for Radio?

Send Now delivers over Wi-Fi or cellular when a connection is available. If you are offline, the message stays in the Outbox until you are online or you start a radio session. Hold for Radio keeps the message in the Outbox until you start a radio session. Use it when you want to operate over the air, or when you expect to be offline. See Sending and receiving email.

How do peer-to-peer messages work?

Turn on Deliver only when peer-to-peer under Cc, From: while composing. The message is limited to the To recipient, held for radio automatically, and delivered only when you connect directly to a station whose callsign matches that recipient. See Sending and receiving email and Radio sessions.

Radios and modems Pairing, discovery, and supported gear.

Which radios and modems are supported?

See the compatibility list. After you add a device, only devices that work with the mode you picked are offered in a session. Radios that set frequency and mode show AUTO. Others show MANUAL. See Devices.

Why is my Bluetooth radio or Mobilinkd not discovered?

Allow Bluetooth for RadioMail in iOS Settings → RadioMail. Confirm the device is on, in pairing mode and that no other app is connected to it.

Can an iPhone pair with a Kenwood TH-D74 or TH-D75 via Bluetooth?

Not directly. Those radios use Bluetooth Classic; iPhone apps use Bluetooth Low Energy. Use a B.B. Link adapter to bridge the two.

Does RadioMail work with Digirig or AIOC?

Yes. Plug in a Digirig Lite or AIOC at any time. RadioMail detects it and uses the built-in packet and ARDOP modems. Other Digirig models like the Digirig Mobile are not supported.

Why do I need a computer for VARA FM and HF?

VARA uses an undisclosed, proprietary transmission protocol, available only as a Windows application. RadioMail connects to a VARA instance on your network and requires the varanny agent to be running. Keep the phone and computer on the same Wi-Fi, and allow Local Network access for RadioMail in iOS Settings → RadioMail.

Other platforms Other operating systems.

Will there be an Android version?

No.
